We waited about two hours for the wind to fill on Saturday. Looked pretty grim for a while, but ended up filling nicely 5-10.
Two course 4s on saturday and a course 3 on sunday.
Racing was very tight the entire weekend, with lots of position changes each race, but in the end Joe Z and Dan V won the last race to take home the coveted Secretary's Cup Trophy. They showed speed the entire weekend, but put it all together Sunday, hit their shifts, and bested the fleet. This is the fourth time Joe has won the Cup, the first since 1984. Joe also won the Masters' division. Saturday evening we inducted Gary MacDonald into the GrandMaster class at the regatta party at Peter's house. Took Gary about 10 minutes to realise that 1. his brother and sister were there, and 2. that the regatta party was partly to honor & embarrass him. Great food, great fun. Thanks to Peter, Donna, Joe and Beth for putting the whole evening together. We added some new fleet members who all sailed well, including Ryan Stasko, Jud Smith and Karl Anderson. Jack Donahue, crewing for Ryan, sailed in one of the college regattas in stars we ran a few years ago. We toasted and remembered Marshall Brown, longtime Milford Star Sailor and friend to many, who enjoyed coming to Boston. His grandfather donated the beautiful silver trophy (originally dated 1896) to the First District. We also remembered star sailor and fleet friend Glyn Charles who was also remembered a few weeks ago in the UK with the Glyn Charles Memorial Pursit Race. Charles died in the 1998 Sydney to Hobart race. This was also a 'District 1 Focus on Four' event, and we would like to thank the rest of the district for supporting their fellow fleets. I'm sure we will all do the same. Thanks to Danny Mullane, Alan Pritchard, Joe Duplin, Mike Gahan, Besty Gahan, and Ernie Hardy for top RC in tough conditions. |
