Nine boats on a short starting line for the first day of fleet racing this season. All the weather reports that I read had wind West moving to Southwest later in the day, but the 5-12 knot breeze oscilated between 90 and 120 all day. Can't always believe what you read.
The first race was a windward leeward course up to Deer Island Anchorage buoy, and down to the nun North of lower Middle. Charles, Braverman and Siljander made a beeline left for the winthrop beach off the start, and were the first three around the windward mark by bit. The second race was two laps of the first. Woods, Charles, Braverman and Cavicchi hit the Winthrop shore hard again and were the first four to the windward mark by plenty. Woods rounded first, but Charles Gybed right around the mark towards the slack channel, made his gains, and took the lead from Woods.
Welcome newcomers Steve Feeney, John Goll, Ken Allen, and Jeff Shoreman to the fleet. Hope to get the rest of the new fleet members out for the JFK regatta next weekend.
Thanks to Dan, Hatch, Dev, etc for two long grueling races!!!!
