Boston Harbor Star Fleet Secretary's Report

Greetings from your Fleet Secretary/Treasurer!

I have just a few points of business to go over with all of you.

The first is fleet membership: I have 14 active members and 6 associate members, these numbers strike me as low so I want to remind you that the deadline for '00 membership is now! Remember crews who are sailing District's and above MUST be associate members (crews sailing fleet races do not). Also, all members will receive a copy of the Star Class Log, good for trips to the protest room, and other such adventures.

The second is Resolutions: We need to vote on the 2000 for 2001 Resolutions. Voting takes place at the World's in Annapolis in May and I will be representing you, yes YOU, so tell me what you think! (This could get me into more trouble than I am bargaining for) There are 15 resolutions to look over; they are listed on the star class web site, with an explanation of why the fleet who submitted the resolution thinks it's a good idea, which makes the "red-tape" language a bit more comprehensible. You can find them in your February copy of Starlights or at: http://www2.fgi.net/~iscyra/contents/Class%20Information/2000_for_2001_resolutions.htm If you are an active member of the fleet (meaning boat owner, paid in full, and your membership is in good standing) you have a vote. Please let me know how you want to vote on each item. Resolutions that are approved (by the class as a whole) will appear on the official annual ballot, circulated in the fall of '00.

My feeling is that crews should be included as well, so if you are a crew and want to express your opinions I would be happy to hear them. Maybe as a fleet we can discuss, either on the fleet forum or at a fleet get together, the hot resolutions and see how the opinions vary between skippers and crews. However I will not be able to include the associate votes in my official fleet tally (also, note that, if you have a boat in partnership, you have only one vote). Basically, the deal is one boat, one vote.

I need your votes by MAY 1, 2000. If you are going to join the fleet/class, I need you dues by April 24, 2000 (once you are paid in full you can vote)

Here are the best ways to reach me:
Email: jcosta@boston.cbs.com
Phone: 617.846.0921

If you are sending something (vote or a check) via snail mail, please phone me, just so I don't miss it, the snail is getting slower these days. And if you can't get the resolutions off the web I can either fax or send them to you (I reserve the right to not read them over the phone, that would be one miserable bedtime story).

Okay, I've babbled enough, I will let you go. Enjoy your Spring Fever and get sailing! Oh, and if anyone has idea's to add to the pot about the Atlantic Coast Master's in August, I could use the input J
