Team Costa wins by a nose.

Five stars ventured out for our Second Wednesday night racing. Started near the airport pier, and headed up to Deer Island and back for a quick Windward-Leeward for the first race. The second race, we went upwind to Deer Island, and reached to red Nun #2 by the club. 8-12 knots and a little chop. Flooding tide.

The races were pretty similar. All the boats had almost the same speed, and tacked at most four times to get to the windward mark on the short leg. Good time for straight line speed testing. After we rounded the windwark in a close third behind Team Costa and Cavicchi/Davis who were overlapped, what sounded like a gunshot behind us was actually John Fox's running backstay car exploding. A quick jibe saved the rig, and they sailed home safely. Costas and Cavicchi Davis fought hard the whole downwind leg working the boat on ever wave. Costas gybed to starboard about 2/3 down the leg for the pin, took cavicchi's stern, and nosed them out at the pin for the bullet. Pratt/Braverman and Larson/Hofmann finished close behind on the short course.

In the second race there was a little more tacking, and some fierce jockying for position upwind. Up top, Team Costa forced Cavicchi/Davis to the port layline coming up to the windward mark, and also forced Braverman/Pratt to tack, and eventually overstand the starboard layline. Cavicchi/Davis rounded just ahead of Team Costa, and they battled down the Deer Island shore with Costa rounding #2 buoy at the club and taking the virtual gun at the finish. Larson/Hofmann had some serious speed grinding down Etchell sailor Pratt with Braverman, but didn't have quite enough racecourse to put the finishing touches around the nun.

Tight Racing. Peter & Jessica had two bullets, and two neck and neck, tooth and nail races with Cavicchi/Davis.

Thanks JoeZ and JimF for the two races. Gorgeous night, fun time was had by all. After the PHRF sailors announced their scores in the bar, I stood up and recited the above star results. Many PHRF sailors said it was great to see stars racing wednesday nights. a few more times, and maybe we'll have some people to add to our potential crew list.

We were there, where were you?????
